What Makes Our School Unique?

One of the major components of the educational program at Robert E. Lillard Design Center is the Schoolwide Enrichment Model. This model is a three part program emphasizing the utilization of higher order thinking skills, creative thinking, problem solving, and research.

Type 1 Enrichment includes field trips, guest speakers, multicultural activities, interest centers, and other programs or activities which are keyed to motivating new interests in students and expanding their experiential base.

Type II Enrichment utilizes shared inquiry and hands on learning to train students in an interest area or in special skills needed for future exploration.

Type III Enrichment is individual, contract-based research and project work based upon student interests and facilitated by the in-house Encore teacher.

All three types are integrated into regular classroom instruction, special services, and the Enrichment Clusters.
Enrichment Clusters, special classes developed in response to student interests, are led by faculty members and community volunteers. Students are grouped across grade levels according to their shared interests and are expected to create a product or service.
